As Assistant Managing Editor, I was able to do layouts for pages inside the paper. The Managing Editor would plan the layout of the paper each week, including ad placement, and then we would place content together. Each page was built on a 4 column-grid and had to have the section header, page numbers, and date across the top. Each story's title had to span the entire width of the page and include the author's credits. Articles were adjusted to avoid orphans and widows and were as closely aligned by column as possible. Photos and graphics included credits and were lightened for printing purposes.
